Render Records is proud to announce the addition of DOWNDAY as the newest members of the labels artist roster.

The Arkansas-based band founded by Rockey Jones, Christian Dean and David O’Neal have been blazing new music trails across the state of Arkansas, as well as, the entire mid south region, growing their fan base at a rapid rate with their unique blend of southern rock style, country melodies, blue collar message and tight harmony.

DOWNDAY was signed in April by hit songwriter, producer and Render co-founder, Steve Freeman. “I had been watching these guys from afar for quite a while. Being from Arkansas, I have always wanted to sign and develop an act from my home state. They sent me some music from their self-recorded cd and I was blown away. I went to see them live and wouldn’t leave without signing them to the label. I see talented people make music every day, but what I saw at a sold out show in Ft. Smith Arkansas, I will never forget. I became an instant fan along side a thousand other people at the venue. From the level of musicianship, showmanship and talent, coupled with the way the crowd reacted to this band, it’s just not something you see every day,” says Freeman.

Things are moving quickly for the newest members of the Render Records recording family. Render released DOWNDAY’s debut single “Back In The Day” to country radio yesterday. The song was written by the band along with Freeman, whom all hail from the same area in Arkansas, and tells a story everyone can identify with about looking back in life and reminiscing on days gone by and where you came from. The single will be available on iTunes and other digital platforms on Tuesday June 4th. The same day, Render is releasing the bands 2009 album ‘Chapter 1’, which has previously never been available for retail purchase. Both the single and the album are available now for pre-order thru iTunes. Later in the month of June, the band will be filming the video for “Back In The Day”, hitting the road to visit radio stations all over the country on a nationwide radio tour and and fulfilling their current touring calendar.

DOWNDAY is currently in the studio with platinum selling producer, Steve Freeman, writing and recording their debut album for Render Records, which has a scheduled street date of Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

The tournament debuted in May 1958 as the Memphis Open and was played annually at Colonial Country Club in Memphis through 1971, then at the club’s new home in Cordova until 1989.

In 1969, actor Danny Thomas (1912-91) agreed to lend his name to the tournament in exchange for his St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital becoming the tournament’s charity. Accordingly, the tournament changed its name the next year to the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic. In 1977, President Gerald Ford, who had just left office, hit a hole-in-one at the tournament’s celebrity pro-am. The same year, Al Geiberger shot a PGA Tour record 59 (13-under-par) round.

In 1986, Federal Express became the title sponsor. For the first three years of their sponsorship, FedEx increased the purse one dollar for each package they shipped on the Friday of the tournament.^[4][5][6] The purses went from $500,000 to $605,912 in 1986, from $600,000 to $724,043 in 1987, and from $750,000 to $953,842 in 1988.

In 1989, the event moved from Colonial Country Club in Cordova to its present location at TPC Southwind in Memphis. In 2007, The Stanford Financial Group took over as the tournament’s title sponsor, and it was renamed Stanford St. Jude Championship. In 2009, the tournament changed its name to St. Jude Classic^[7] following accusations that the Stanford Financial Group was a Ponzi scheme. FedEx returned as title sponsor in 2011.^[8]

In 2012, the total purse was $5,600,000, with $1,008,000 going to the winner.

More About John Daly:

John Daly (aka JD) was born in Carmichael, California in 1966. His family moved from California to Dardanelle, Arkansas, when John was five. Dardanelle is where John found and fell in love with the game of golf. Later, John attended Helias High School, in Jefferson City, Missouri, and was a Letterman in both football and golf. It was golf where he excelled being named the title of Missouri State Champion. John also attended the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the golf team.

Daly turned professional in 1987, and won the Ben Hogan Utah Classic three years later. His long list of achievements include the 1990 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year title, being noted as the youngest active player on PGA TOUR with two major championship titles, and becoming the fourth American since World War II to win two majors before his 30th birthday, joining Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Johnny Miller.

A songwriter and performer, John has recorded a largely autobiographical album entitled “My Life”, featuring guest performances by Darius Rucker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Lee, and Daron Norwood. In addition, John is familiar for his tireless charitable work, including Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Rather than flying, John often drives his RV to many tournaments, further growing his reputation as “a true man of the people”. John recently drove his office to Clearwater, Florida, and joined Belleair Country Club. Belleair is renowned as a course in pristine condition, where John can practice and work on his game. He genuinely enjoys the staff and members of the Belleair Country Club, and is a member of the PGA & European PGA Tour.

John is currently developing a new golf line called “Blue Collar Golf” (just a play away), with other BCG members and entrepreneurs, Ed Droste and Dan Walker. He is also in partnership with the Loudmouth Golf clothing line.

Daly remains as one of the most popular and intriguing figures on the Tour with his driving distance off the tee, his most recent wardrobe and his no-frills philosophy of “grip it and rip it.”

DOWNDAY is currently in the studio with producer Steve Freeman working on their sophomore album which will be released this fall. Their debut single “Back In The Day” is set to be released to country and mainstream rock radio world-wide in May just in time for the Summer touring season. The band will also be busy in the month of May shooting the video for “Back In The Day” which will be released to CMT, GAC, TNN, MTV and VH1 in early June.
